Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry, who has yet to play this season, once again won’t suit up Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

However, the Chiefs are preparing Berry to make his much-awaited 2018 debut in their Thursday night matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Berry finally returned to practice a couple of weeks ago after missing most of the year with a painful Achilles issue. He was once again limited in practice this week. But chances are he will log a full practice before he does get the go-ahead to play his first game of the season.

Berry, a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, has played in just one game since the end of the 2016 season. He suffered a season-ending torn Achilles in the first game of the 2017 campaign and hasn’t played since.

It’ll be a tough task to expect Berry to return to his best after missing the better part of two seasons due to debilitating Achilles injuries. However, he still has three games to shake off that significant rust.

The Chiefs are hoping to have Berry back to something close to his best ahead of the playoffs in order to improve their subpar defense. After giving up 54 points in a shootout loss to the Los Angeles Rams, the Chiefs surprisingly coughed up 33 points to the struggling Oakland Raiders.

Berry’s potential debut against the Chargers could be big. If the Chiefs lose to the Ravens and the Chargers win, the Chargers would have the chance to take command of the AFC West.
