The Kansas City Chiefs have placed the franchise tag on linebacker Dee Ford, but that doesn't mean that the team won't entertain potential trade offers for him this offseason.

There was lots of speculation as to what the Chiefs would do with Ford, and the franchise tag seemed to be the most likely option.

However, while that's the strategy Kansas City is using, it's also clear that the team is willing to listen to offers for Ford given the change in defensive scheme.

From ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter:

Chiefs are placing their franchise tag on LB Dee Ford today and plan to play with him this season, but with the change to a 4-3 defensive scheme, they will listen to trade offers for their franchised player, per league sources.

Ford racked up 55 total tackles last season, but it was his 13 sacks and seven forced fumbles that showcased his talents as one of the most impactful linebackers in the NFL.

As for the Chiefs, it's clear that the defensive side of the ball will be a huge focus this offseason, as Andy Reid's decision to hire Steve Spagnuolo as new defensive coordinator could be what decides whether Kansas City can make a run to a Super Bowl next season.

With a revamped defensive approach, this should once again be one of the top teams in the league.
