The Kansas City Chiefs sustained quite a few injuries in their second preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Among them, wide receiver Marcus Kemp is expected to be out for the season with a torn ACL.

Kemp suffered the gruesome injury against the Steelers and was carted off of the field. During his post-game press conference, Andy Reid said that Kemp's injury was the “most significant” of the injuries that occurred in the game.

On Monday, Kemp received an MRI and it confirmed that he tore his ACL and MCL in his knee. The young wide receiver was making strides in the offense and finished the preseason with two receptions for 36 yards.

Last year, Kemp broke onto the scene as one of the Chiefs' key special teams contributors. Aside from tight end Demetrius Harris and fullback Anthony Sherman, Kemp had the most snaps on special teams in 2018.

The Chiefs signed Kemp as an undrafted free agent out of Hawaii in 2017. Upon his arrival, Kansas City liked the idea of placing him on special teams to provide a boost to their kicking and punting units.

Fortunately for Kemp, the 24-year old wideout is set to become an exclusive right free agent in 2020. That means that the Chiefs will have the option to keep him beyond next season as he makes his return.

With the injury to Kemp, that creates an opportunity for undrafted rookie Cody Thompson to make the roster. Through two preseason contests, Thompson has nine catches for 88 yards—which leads the team.
