Head coach and quarterback. If the two don't get along, more often than not, it will reflect on the scoreboard. If they do, the same happens on a more positive note. Take, for instance, the Kansas City Chiefs' coach-quarterback duo in Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes, who have combined for a 14-4 regular-season record.

Though known for his offensive innovation and quarterback whispering, Reid's schematics and football intelligence aren't the only reason why he wins games. He has a firm understanding of who he has on his team and how to relate and talk to him.

“The understanding that he has for each and every person, and how he’s able to relate to them, is definitely a part of who he is. He’s never going to fake what he’s thinking or how he’s feeling. People respect that,” Mahomes said, via The Athletic's Nate Taylor.

Most importantly, for the coach, he has the fire and love for what he does. When the team sees that, they are likely more intrigued by the thought of buying in under Big Red's ideas and schematics.

“Just because you get a little bit older and get some gray hair, that doesn’t mean you still don’t love what you’re doing and you don’t have the fire,” Reid said, per Taylor. “That’s important for the guys to see. Not out of personality, though. It’s got to be a part of your personality or they go, ‘Eh, it’s a show.’ It’s important we all do that and we’re ourselves out here when we do our thing.”

Perhaps Reid's fire and intensity are a driving force for the Chiefs' immense success since he arrived in 2013; including four straight trips to the playoffs. Or, it's his will to win a Super Bowl ring for the first time as a head coach.
