The Kansas City Chiefs offense caught a lot of people by surprise last season. After years of being a fairly unspectacular offense under Alex Smith, they suddenly transformed into one of the best and most explosive attacks in the entire league.

Patrick Mahomes, who has taken over for Smith as the starting quarterback, will now have the responsibility of building upon that success this season. And with so many weapons at his disposal, Mahomes believes the Chiefs’ offense is capable of rising all the way to the top this year.

“I think we can be one of [the best], if not the best offense in the NFL,” Mahomes said per Adam Teicher of ESPN. “We have a ton of talent everywhere and we're deep at every position. I think with the offensive line all coming back pretty much and then having a good stable of running backs, having receivers and tight ends that can make plays, for me it's all about just getting them the ball and letting them make the plays.”

Mahomes may very well have the best collection of talent at the skill position spots in the league to work with. Running back Kareem Hunt was a revelation as a rookie, and he’ll still have the capable duo of Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware backing him up.

Travis Kelce might be the best tight end in the league not named Rob Gronkowski. Meanwhile, the wide receiver duo of Sammy Watkins and Tyreek Hill has the potential to simply blow opposing secondaries away with their blistering speed.

Of course, much of the Chiefs’ success will still hinge upon Mahomes’ ability to execute Andy Reid’s system competently in his first year as a starter and get all those playmakers the ball. But if he is able to tap into his undoubted potential right away, the Chiefs could very well have the best offense in the league when it’s all said and done.
