LOS ANGELES – Montrezl Harrell and the LA Clippers have had a very up-and-down couple of weeks, but Saturday afternoon marked arguably their worst game of the season. The Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Clippers 140-114, but the boxscore won't do enough justice in describing just how dominant the Grizzlies were.

The Clippers' effort level was low from the jump-ball, getting out-rebounded and out-hustled to loose balls. On top of that, they struggled to contain the Grizzlies shooters all night. Memphis finished with a season-high 140 points, including a blistering 18-of-39 shooting from beyond the arc.

Jae Crowder led the way with 27 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and three blocks with six three-pointers. Dillon Brooks also showed out with six three-pointers leading to 22 points of his own.

After the game, forward Montrezl Harrell had a plethora of critical comments for his own team for their effort against the 13-22 Grizzlies.

“[If] you come in and no matter what time the game is, no matter what's going on, you're just thinking you're gonna walk on the floor and beat another professional NBA basketball team, you're kidding yourself,” said Harrell. “It's just not gonna happen. Either we wake up and figure it out right now, or we're just gonna have a full up-and-down season for the whole year.

Harrell finished with a game-high 28 points to go along with nine rebounds and three assists. It wasn't nearly enough, however. With Paul George and Patrick Beverley already out, the Clippers scored just 38 points from guys not named Harrell, Kawhi Leonard (24) and Lou Williams (24).

“It's playing with effort,” Harrell added. “The only thing we're supposed to do, [which is] carrying out our game plan, no matter what that may be. Every team is gonna have a different game plan. At the end of the day, it's all gonna come down to who wants it more, and, at end of the day, you saw who wanted it more out there on the floor.”

At 25-12, the Clippers hold the fourth best record in the Western Conference, but are only 15-5 against teams with a losing record. In comparison, the Bucks are 23-0, the Raptors are 19-0, the Lakers are 19-0, the Jazz are 18-3

“We're not a great team,” Harrell continued. “We're not a great team. We just became together this year. We have two players that haven't never been a part of this team last year. We have a player who won an NBA championship with a whole other team last year. So we're not a great team, that's No. 1 right there. That's what we need to realize and wake up. We're still a team that needs to figure out things we need to do to win, night in and night out.

“I'm gonna come in and do that day in and day out, but I expect my team, we're grown men in here, to see that this is not the team that we want to be, you know? Play one way and play great against the teams that we feel are great and then we walk in and just show up to the teams that we think we're supposed to beat – simple as that.”

The good news is the Clippers have a chance to get back on track almost immediately with a game on Sunday afternoon against the New York Knicks. The bad news is that they might be without Kawhi Leonard (load management), Paul George (hamstring tightness), and Patrick Beverley (sprained wrist) for the matchup.
