Former head coach and NBA executive Tom Thibodeau believes the Los Angeles Clippers have a real shot at being the best team in the NBA.

The Clippers signed two-time Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard in free agency and traded for Oklahoma City Thunder forward and six-time All-Star Paul George — two LA natives — in one fell swoop, effectively raising their title odds and clearing a path to contention in one night in the offseason.

Thibodeau, who last coached the Minnesota Timberwolves before losing his job midway through the 2018-19 season, is a believer in the Clippers roster, which is also composed of Patrick Beverley, Ivica Zubac, Montrezl Harrell, and three-time Sixth Man of the Year winner Lou Williams.

“I think when you look at the roster and the quality of depth the Clippers have, certainly you have to put them right up there at the top. The fact that Kawhi went into Toronto and brought that team a championship, he did it in San Antonio and when you look at his winning percentage for his career, it’s off the charts,” Thobodeau told Jovan Buha of The Athletic.

“This is obviously a guy who has great impact on winning.”

The Clippers, coached by Doc Rivers, lost in the first round of the 2019 NBA Playoffs, but Vegas odd-makers believe the LA team could be the team to beat this fall — and Thibodeau is right there with them.
