Michigan State is the No. 14 team in the country with a 14-3 record. The Spartans have a 5-1 conference record which puts them in third behind No. 17 Illinois and No. 8 Wisconsin. Wisconsin leads the Big Ten with a 6-1 conference record and 15-2 overall. Both teams have a tough stretch of games coming up so this is an important one to win. Why Michigan State Could Cover The Spread

The Spartans are coming off a horrible loss to Northwestern at home last time out. That was not a well-played game by any means by the Spartans but they have a huge chance to make up for it Friday night. This will be one of the toughest teams they will face the rest of the season. The Big Ten is very competitive this year, with five teams in the top-19. No. 4 Purdue is coming off a loss to Indiana and they dropped to 4-3 in conference play. Wisconsin could be the top team in the conference when it is all said and done, so a Michigan State win here would be important for the rest of the season.

If they want to cover this spread, they must stop Johnny Davis. He's one of the nation's top offensive players and is averaging 22 points per game. Not only him but Brad Davison and Tyler Wahl as well. Those three make up for 66% of the Badgers scoring this year. If the Spartans can figure out a way to disrupt their flow, then they will have a chance to steal a win in Wisconsin. Michigan State is 8-3 against Badger's head coach Greg Ward so that is a positive sign. The Spartans are 9-8 against the spread this year.

Why Wisconsin Could Cover The Spread

Wisconsin comes into this matchup as the favorites at home. That is the right choice here because of their offensive threat, and the Spartans' last loss to Northwestern. As mentioned earlier, this team is led by three players and so they will need them all to be on point in this one if they are to cover. On the defensive side, they need to contain Gabe Brown, who averages 14 points per game. They can not let him get to the line frequently either because he shoots 89.6% from the strike. He is a great shooter and can disrupt any defense he faces.

If they can shut down Brown and the rest of the Spartan's offense, they will cover this spread easily. The Spartans are 3-0 on the road this year while Wisconsin is 8-1 at home. These two teams are dead even in terms of scoring and allowing points, so it will be on the team who finds a way to close in the second half. Wisconsin is also 12-5 against the spread this year and is a solid choice in this one.

I like the Badgers in this one. They are the better team right now and are coming off a win to the team that just upset Michigan State. With that being said, take Wisconsin to cover this spread and take the over as well. This could be a very high-scoring game.
