Miami hosts legendary North Carolina on Tuesday night! It's time to continue our college basketball odds series with a North Carolina-Miami prediction and pick.
It's been a solid start to the season for North Carolina, but nothing close to what we are accustomed to seeing. They are 12-4 on the season and the last two games show that they might be on the right track. They have consecutive 16+ point victories but have another tough test against Miami on Tuesday night.
As for the Hurricanes, they are 13-4 on the season and are coming off a huge win over No. 2 Duke two games ago. The problem is they lost to Florida State by one point last game. That could've been a huge momentum builder for them and it could've put them in the rankings. A win here against North Carolina could put them in the top-25.

Why North Carolina Could Cover This Spread
North Carolina needs to get back on track and they are on pace to do so. This is a huge game for them if they want get back into the rankings. North Carolina hasn't had any issues scoring points, it's their defense that isn't where we are used to seeing it at. They are allowing 70 points a game on average which is not a good sign. If they want to cover this spread, they must improve their defense and continue winning games by a comfortable lead.
The Tar Heels are aware that Miami just upset their rivals, Duke, a week ago, and they do not want to suffer that same fate. Armando Bacot leads the team in scoring at 17.4 points per game and he will need to be on his game if they want to cover this spread. North Carolina is just 7-9 against the spread this year which is not a good sign. The good news is that they have won two in a row so that puts them in a favorable position for Tuesday night.

Why Miami Could Cover This Spread
Miami has a solid chance of covering this spread. They are the underdogs at home where they are 8-1 on the season. Because of their win over now No. 6 Duke, Miami leads the ACC with a 5-1 conference record. They were one point away from potentially being 6-0 in the conference and in the top-25 rankings. UNC is 9-0 at home so in this case, Miami should be happy to be at home for this game. They need to take advantage of their home court and really step up against a good team.
Miami is led by their four guards who all contribute on a regular basis. Three of the four average north of 12 points per game and they are led by Kameron McGusty who averages 18 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. If McGusty is playing well then that will allow for the others to play well also. They need to contain Bacot on UNC and not allow his size to control the game. That is how they are going to be able to cover this spread. Miami is 8-8 against the spread this season.

I like Miami at home in this one. They are coming off a loss but also a huge win over a very good team. Because they are at home, I think they have a good chance to cover this spread.
