Why TCU Could Cover the Spread

The TCU Horned Frogs are coming off an upset win against 12th ranked Baylor last weekend 30-28. The TCU fans stormed the field after the game-sealing interception iced it for the Horned Frogs. It was a much-needed win for TCU after losing three straight games by at least 12 points or more. The defense held the Bears to 214 passing yards and forced two interceptions. Offensively, freshman quarterback Chandler Morris was spectacular. He finished with 461 passing yards, 70 rushing yards, and three total touchdowns. It was his third career game for the Horned Frogs, and he should be looking at more starts moving forward after Saturday's noteworthy performance.

Opponents are averaging 34.6 points and 475.4 yards per game against TCU's defense. It has not been a good season for the Horned Frogs against the spread at 2-6-1. Yet, they showed that they have the offensive firepower to hang around in games, especially with Chandler Morris at the helm. The defense is what needs to step up against a very electric Oklahoma State offense.

Why Oklahoma State Could Cover the Spread

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are off to a great start with an 8-1 record and 5-1 in conference play. They are elite in just about any defensive metric out there, ranking 5th in the nation with 4.3 yards per play and 3rd in opponent yards per game (269.8). In their last two games against Kansas and WVU, the Cowboys allowed only one field goal to each team. They also put up 79 points combined between the previous two wins as well.

Junior quarterback Spencer Sanders leads the offense with 1,523 passing yards, 13 passing touchdowns, and 316 rushing yards for four touchdowns. The offense averages 29.5 points on 384.1 yards per game. They will readily put together a ton of methodical drives against a TCU-run defense that hasn't' been able to stop anybody. They are 7-2 against the spread this year and 6-0 against the spread in their last six conference games.

Final TCU-Oklahoma State Prediction & Pick

TCU is coming off a huge upset victory after an emotional coaching change a few days before. This will be a much more formidable challenge on the road against a 10th ranked Oklahoma State team that looks like a legitimate contender in the Big-12. The TCU defense has been very shaky and gives up 34.6 points per game. Oklahoma State is averaging 38.5 points over their last two games, so they should have no issue scoring in this matchup. The Cowboys will handle the TCU offense and score enough to the point where the Horned Frogs cannot keep up for the entire game. Take the Oklahoma State Cowboys to cover the spread.

FINAL TCU-OKLAHOMA STATE PREDICTION & PICK: Oklahoma State -11.5
