Good news for Indianapolis Colts fans: quarterback Anthony Richardson underwent successful shoulder surgery on Tuesday. Colts owner Jim Irsay gave the update on his official X account.

“#5 QB Anthony Richardson's surgery today in LA was a success! It was a long procedure and his shoulder injury has been repaired. No new surprises were found during surgery – they just repaired what was expected. Anthony is doing well and thanks everyone for the support (There is presently no date for his return),” Jim Irsay tweeted.

Anthony Richardson injured his shoulder in the Colts' 23-16 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 5. Two Titans defenders converged on Richardson before the latter hit the Lucas Oil Stadium Turf hard. Anthony Richardson tapped his shoulder to indicate he was hurt after the collision.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on October 15 Richardson was leaning toward shoulder surgery that would end his rookie season. He eventually underwent surgery this week. Richardson had recorded 577 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception prior to his injury.

Anthony Richardson showed Colts fans he has the potential to become an elite dual-threat quarterback. He also ran for 136 rushing yards and four touchdowns before he got hurt. Richardson had a 3-2 win-loss record as Indy's starting quarterback.

Gardner Minshew has taken over starting quarterback duties for the Colts in Anthony Richardson's absence. Minshew was particularly impressive against the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens in September.

Unfortunately, his performance has tailed off drastically in recent weeks. Minshew had a combined eight turnovers in the Colts' recent losses to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns. The Colts had a chance to beat Cleveland. However, two late penalties sealed their fate.

The Colts look to get back on the winning track against the New Orleans Saints in Week 8.
