The Indianapolis Colts enjoyed a major breakout season from Eric Ebron in 2018. After four average (if not disappointing) seasons with the Detroit Lions, Ebron spent his first season in Indianapolis last year.

In that season, he had career-highs in receptions (66), targets (110), yards (750), and touchdowns (13). Touchdowns were the big one. His previous high was just five. Now considered a serious red zone threat, Ebron suddenly became a star.

Then came 2019. Through eight games, Ebron has just 18 receptions on 31 targets. He has 248 yards and three touchdowns.

He's been basically a no-show in the box score on a heavy number of occasions already this year. Now it appears, he's admitting he's frustrated with his role in the offense.

This really should not come as any surprise to anyone. Ebron's breakout season in 2018 was monumental. It turned him from someone people considered a bust into an absolute star at the tight end position.

Of course, you could argue that it's not all the role. Ebron has been known for his drops throughout his entire career. Sometimes when you drop a few too many passes, quarterbacks might not want to look your way all that much anymore.

However, Ebron also does have a point. As pointed out in the tweet, the tight end played in less than half the offensive snaps in Week 9. He also had just two targets all game (and he caught both of them) for 16 yards.

Clearly, both sides might have a pretty legitimate argument for how things are going. The truth is though, this situation isn't working for Ebron. After last season, you could understand why he was expecting to be a major player in the offense this year.

Yes, some things have changed (Andrew Luck retiring for one), but no one could've expected this much of a drop-off. We'll see if things change in the upcoming weeks, but based on how 2019 has gone, don't hold your breath.
