Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich has no regrets with how he handled the Adam Vinatieri situation throughout the season. Vinatieri had plenty of struggles throughout the season but the team continued to support him. Even though Vinatieri cost the team a couple of chances at victory, Reich said he wouldn't have changed how he handled it.

“I really don't (have regrets),” Reich said Monday via Jim Ayello of the Indy Star. “I wish it would have worked out better, numbers wise. But when I look back on it, and I think I'm being pretty honest with myself, given all of the factors, given his history, given what we were seeing in practice, given the fact that it started a little bit slow but that he hit a groove for three or four games; he earned it. I think he earned it. I think he earned the right to let that thing play out until the end with the injury. So no, no regrets.”

Vinatieri missed 14 kicks in 12 games before he was placed on the injured reserve. Even when everyone else was calling for the team to move on from him, Reich continued to support the future Hall of Famer. Vinatieri started off the season by costing the team seven points and it never got much better.

The team placed Vinatieri on the injured reserve and claimed Chase McLaughlin off waivers. In four games McLaughlin made five of his six field goals and hit all 11 extra-point attempts. He signed an extension earlier this week which means Vinatieri's time with the Colts is over.
