Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri has struggled to start the year.

He went 1-for-3 on field goals and 1-for-2 on extra points in an overtime loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1. In Week 2 he followed that up by going 1-for-3 in a win over the Tennessee Titans.

Although he's a Hall of Famer, the struggles are very real at the moment. Real enough that it appears the 46-year-old might be considering retiring.

However, that won't be happening if the Colts have anything to say about it. According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com, the team will try to convince the kicker not to retire.

Vinatieri is struggling to start the year but is one of the best kickers of all-time. He has made 84.1% of his field-goal attempts in his career. Last year, he connected on 85.2% of his kicks. He's connected on higher than his career number every year since 2012 (when he made 78.8% of his kicks).

Clearly, Vinatieri has shown absolutely zero signs of slowing down prior to the first two games of his year. But for someone that's played in 173 games and kicked 693 field goals and 872 extra points, two games, three field-goal attempts, and five extra-point attempts aren't exactly a big sample size.

Indianapolis will want to do whatever they can to keep Vinatieri with the team. It's almost a certainty that he'll correct himself and turn back into the automatic kicker he usually is.

For now, though, his future is in limbo. Vinatieri has hinted that he might be retiring. It's up to the Colts to convince him not to.
