The wide receiver-needy Indianapolis Colts entered the 2020 NFL Draft without a first-round pick, but luckily for the Colts, this draft class was incredibly deep at receiver.

With the 34th overall selection, Indianapolis took University of Southern California wide out Michael Pittman Jr., a move that did not surprise Pittman one bit:

“Yeah, so actually I was almost certain that I was going to be a Colt today,” Pittman told reporters after being drafted, per Kevin Hickey of Colts Wire. “Just based on the conversations that we had. I felt like we had a good connection and I just felt like it was the right fit.”

The son of former NFL running back Michael Pittman, the USC product is coming off of a terrific senior campaign in which he hauled in 101 receptions for 1,275 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Pittman arrived at USC back in 2016 and got off to a slow start, logging just six catches for 82 yards in his freshman year. His role expanded a bit the following season, but he was still relatively quiet, catching 23 passes for 404 yards and a couple of scores.

It wasn't until his junior campaign that Pittman finally began to flash his true potential, snaring 41 balls for 758 yards and six touchdowns en route to his breakout senior year.

The Colts did not sign a wide receiver in free agency, and given how thin the club is at the position behind T.Y. Hilton, it's certainly no shock that Indianapolis took a receiver at the first opportunity in the draft.

Indy went 7-9 this past season.
