Gearing up for his first go-round as a member of the Indianapolis Colts, longtime Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is already drawing high praise from those inside the AFC franchise. According to Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni, Rivers has impressed in a variety of ways throughout the offseason, his first ever away from the West Coast after previously spending his entire professional playing career as a member of the Chargers.

“I expect him to be the guy that leads the offense,” Sirianni recently told Andrew Walker of the Colts official website. “We know how accurate he is and how he’s a great decision-maker. He’s accurate. He makes good fast decisions. So I expect that out of him in the pass game. Getting us into the right protection call, because he studies blitzes and the opposing team more than anyone I’ve ever been around.”

While signing Rivers to a one-year free agent contract earlier in the year, the Colts are expecting to compete in the always dangerous AFC South Division in 2020. Aside from the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars, who can't seem to get out of their own way, both the Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans will be legitimate contenders in the AFC as Indianapolis will need to bring it from start-to-finish in order to overtake such a tandem in the standings.

Both the Titans and Texans reached the playoffs last season as the Colts were unable to do so following the sudden retirement of former NFL quarterback Andrew Luck.
