The Indianapolis Colts made the stunning decision on Monday to hire Jeff Saturday as their interim head coach after parting ways with Frank Reich. The decision, which was cooked up by owner Jim Irsay, has received some rather questionable reviews from those around the league, given Saturday's lack of experience. Former Colts head coach Tony Dungy is among those doubting the move made by the franchise, and during an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, he voiced his concerns over the hire.

Via Ari Meirov on Twitter:

“Former #Colts HC Tony Dungy said on the @dpshow that he would’ve tried to talk Jim Irsay out of firing Frank Reich and hiring Jeff Saturday if Irsay had given him a call.”

It's certainly a surprise to see Dungy so outspoken in that stance, but the former Colts head coach is clearly not on board with the decision to bring on Saturday in the middle of the season. He indicated that he'd have tried to talk Irsay out of the move had his opinion been asked for.

Saturday boasts no head coaching experience beyond the high school level, where he was an assistant and later promoted to head coach of the football team at Hebron Christian Academy in Dacula, Georgia. He posted a 20-16 record as head coach with the program, and will now make a shocking leap to become head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.

Irsay's decision sent shockwaves throughout the NFL, and it seems that even his old cohorts aren't quite on board with the move, either. Tony Dungy put his voice to that on Tuesday, and he, like the rest of us, will be watching to see how Jeff Saturday's NFL head coaching stint unfolds.
