The Washington Football Team have officially confirmed that they are using the “Commanders” moniker starting in the 2022 season. Unfortunately, however, it seems not everyone is a big fan of it. One of those people is defensive end Chase Young.
After the Commanders made the announcement for their new nickname, Young quickly went viral but for the wrong reasons. An old video of him grading potential nicknames for the team resurfaced, which showed him giving a failing grade to the moniker the team eventually adopted.

Yikes! Surely, Chase Young and the Commanders players didn't have a role in choosing the name. Because if they do, they would have been probably named as the Washington Red Wolves or stayed as the Washington Football Team–the only names that got a passing or better grade from the star DE.
Here's the full video of that segment from November 2021.

Regardless of Young's feelings about the Commanders name, it is certainly a critical step for the team as they move on to a new chapter for the franchise.
After using the Redskins name for a long time–which raised a lot of eyebrows as people contend it is offensive–they retired it and used a generic “Washington Football Team” as their name before going on a full rebranding.
Now, the Commanders can finally move past that part of their history and start a new era. Hopefully, Young will get to love the new name as it grows on him.
