The Washington Commanders have placed Chris Rodriguez Jr. on Injured Reserve for the final two games of the regular season after he endured an ankle injury, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The injury comes right as Rodriguez Jr. was breaking out, having just put up  his best career game against the New York Jets.

Versus the Jets, Rodriguez Jr. recorded 10 carries for 58 yards and two touchdowns. This was the highest yardage total and the first two touchdowns of his career. It was also just his second time getting 10 carries in one game. He now has accumulated 51 carries for 248 yards and two touchdowns at an average of 4.8 yards per carry during his rookie year.

The sixth-round pick out of Kentucky has gotten more opportunities over the past month, in part because of a recent hamstring injury to Brian Robinson, that caused him to miss the past two games. Robinson has returned to practice as a limited participant, which the Commanders will need with Rodriguez Jr. injured.

Rodriguez Jr. helped add a needed spark to the Commanders rushing attack, which has not been great all season long. The Commanders rank just 22nd in the NFL in rushing yards per game, and struggle to stay balanced on the offensive side of the ball. They have a backfield committee with Rodriguez, Robinson and Antonio Gibson, but no one who will regularly go for 100 yards or pull away from the pack.

It's a bummer for Rodriguez that he is now out right as he was beginning to get more playing time, but he'll just have to build off this in his sophomore year.
