The Washington Commanders had an absolutely terrible 2021 season off the field. From the players to their management, it seemed like key members of their team were always embroiled in controversy. One of those players is Deshazor Everett, the former strong safety of the Commanders.

In December last year, Deshazor Everett was involved in a fatal car crash in Virginia. The Commanders (then known as the Washington Football Team) took him off the active roster and released him after the season. Recently, Everett has plead guilty to the reckless driving charge against him. (via Associated Press)

Everett had a solid run as a safety for the Washington franchise. The 2015 undrafted defensive back spent all seven seasons with the team, eventually developing into a starting-caliber safety for the team. He was also named the special teams captain for most of his run with the team.

Deshazor Everett was placed on the injured reserve list in December of 2021 after the aforementioned car crash. He was taken to the hospital and was treated for his severe injuries. His passenger, girlfriend Olivia Peters, unfortunately passed away due to her injuries. It was revealed that the ex-Commanders safety was twice over the speed limit of 45 kilometers per hour when the crash occurred. He was arrested in February this year for this incident.

Virginia rules state that reckless driving is punishable by up to a year in prison. Deshazor Everett will be sentenced on September 8. We will keep you updated on this story as more information is released.
