Allen Hurns has come a long way. The last time we saw the Dallas Cowboys receiver, he was being carted off the field during the team's playoff win over the Seattle Seahawks. Hurns suffered a devastating ankle injury, and it was gruesome to anyone who was watching.

It initially looked like something that would sideline Hurns for a long time, but he has done a great job working his way back. In fact, Hurns has been able to participate in the team's mandatory minicamp, per Rob Phillips of the team's official site. The Cowboys were originally thought to be targeting training camp for his return, so it sounds like he's ahead of schedule.

“WRs coach Sanjay Lal said Allen Hurns ran routes on air last week and looked good,” Phillips reports.

While it's great to see Hurns healthy again, it's unclear what type of role he'll have with the team. The former Jaguars receiver signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Cowboys last offseason, and was expected to be a big part of the offense.

But rookie Michael Gallup started to break out, and then the team traded for Amari Cooper. Hurns was forced to take a back seat, and finished with just 20 catches for 295 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite the dip in production and the injury, the team showed confidence in him earlier this offseason by publicly declaring he'd be back at his somewhat hefty salary. The Cowboys did let Cole Beasley walk in free agency, so perhaps that'll open up some snaps for Hurns.

He's still only 27, so he should be able to return with plenty of burst. No matter what he does in 2019, it's just good to see him back on the field and putting the injury behind him.
