Dallas Cowboys wideout Amari Cooper is reportedly nursing a “plantar fascia irritation,” per Mike Fisher of mavensports.io.

Cooper, 25, is a star wide receiver who cost the Cowboys a first-round pick in a midseason trade last year from the Oakland Raiders. The three-time Pro Bowler was the fourth pick by the Raiders in the 2015 draft after a standout collegiate career at Alabama.

As Fisher reports, Cooper's injury has been officially listed as a “heel bruise.”

“Plantar fasciitis” has a scary ring to it. This, I’m told, is a “very small muscle strain” of the plantar fascia, which is the a ligamentous connective tissue that runs from the heel bone to the ball of the foot. There are different levels of potential injury there, all the way up to a tear.

Said coach Jason Garrett: “We don’t think this is a long-term thing. But we just want to be deliberate in bringing him back.”

“Bottom line,” one source tells [Fisher], “ is he’ll be fine.”

In nine games for the Cowboys last season, the 6-foot-1 Cooper recorded 53 receptions for 725 yards and six touchdowns. Cooper was among the players cast away by head coach Jon Gruden in his rejiggered Oakland organization following the coach's signing of a 10-year contract with the Bay Area franchise.

The Cowboys are currently dealing with a plague of off-field issues during training camp. The other star offensive threats — quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott — are each seeking new deals with Dallas. Prescott, 26, is entering his fourth season in the league and could earn north of $30 million per year in his next contract. The other backfield threat, Elliott, is away from the team as he holds out for a new contract.
