The Dallas Cowboys have been struck with a huge blow to their defensive line.

Cowboys COO Stephen Jones has revealed while speaking to reporters that defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has suffered a season-ending quad injury.

Initial reports of the injury indicated the team thought it was an ACL tear, but an MRI today has shown that the injury is higher up on the leg instead:

#Cowboys COO Stephen Jones tells reporters that DT Gerald McCoy’s MRI showed a ruptured quad tendon and he’s out for the season. Initial fear had been an ACL, but the MRI delivers bad news, regardless. A major blow.

This is a big blow to the defensive line and the defense as a whole for a Cowboys team that is looking to make a big improvement and make a deep run in the playoffs.

The injury bug is not something new to the Cowboys, as multiple players were out for extended periods of time last season, including outside linebacker Leighton Vander Esch, who missed the last six weeks of the season.

The team has not made any indication of what their next move will be. The other primary tackle, Dontari Poe, is still trying to make his way back to the team off of his own quad injury which sidelined him in week 12 of last season.

With McCoy out and Poe still working his way back onto the field, the Cowboys will have to rely on their depth in the center of the defense, with Trysten Hill and Neville Gallimore looking to fill the roles for the time being.

While hard this late in the game, don't be surprised to see the Cowboys attempt to look to sign a defensive tackle to shore up the position for the 2020 season.
