There has been plenty of speculation regarding the future of cornerback Orlando Scandrick's tenure with the Dallas Cowboys. Now it seems the team has come to a decision.

Scandrick has been vocal about his desire to be released from the Cowboys. According to ESPN's Josina Anderson, he finally got his wish this offseason:

I’m told the Cowboys have informed CB Orlando Scandrick he will be released, per source.

The move should certainly come as no surprise. There had been reports about the Cowboys gauging trade offers on Scandrick as far back as the 2017 NFL Draft. However, it is apparent that the team has been unable to find any offers of their choosing, which is likely why the team has granted Scandrick's request and let him go.

Scandrick has been one of the Cowboys' most dependable defensive backs ever since they took him in the fifth-round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, lingering injuries have started to derail his performance in recent years. That said, it did not appear as though Dallas was willing to pay him a contract worthy of a starting cornerback's salary.

As a result, the Cowboys had been hoping to get something in return for the veteran for some time now. However, the time has finally come for both sides to part ways after 10 seasons.

Scandrick should garner plenty of attention from teams looking to shore up their depth in the secondary. When healthy, the former second-team All-Pro is still a solid option on the outside. Meanwhile, the Cowboys are expected to move safety Byron Jones to cornerback for the 2018 NFL season.
