UFC President Dana White finally peeled back the curtain on the next middleweight title fight match-up between Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker. It has long been agreed that this was the next fight for the title at 185.

Dana White did an interview with The Daily Telegraph where he discussed a variety of topics surrounding the Australia and New Zealand region of MMA. He also talked about his plans for Israel Adesanya.

“That’s a fight we want to make, so we’re working on it,” White said (transcription via MMAJunkie). “I will get that done. That’s what we’re working on – we’re working on January.”

The plans for Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker have been in motion since Whittaker beat Kelvin Gastelum back in April. Whittaker won a very dominant decision and upped his win streak to three since losing to Adesanya back in October 2019.

The dream scenario would obviously be for the fight to take place in either Australia or New Zealand. Israel Adesanya lives in New Zealand and Whittaker was born in New Zealand himself, although he currently lives in Australia.

“You know what sucks? With everything that’s going on right now, when you think about that fight, that fight should be done over there (in Australia or New Zealand). But that ain’t going to happen.

“Listen, I don’t like to be all cocky and shit, but we will do everything in our power to get that stuff worked out.”

Only time will tell if the UFC and Israel Adesanya can pull it off. The fight needs to happen in order for the division to move on.
