The Los Angeles Dodgers have been hit hard by injuries and have somehow found a way to stay within striking distance of the San Francisco Giants in the National League West. Trevor Bauer has now had his administrative leave extended again, and questions remain on if he returns at all this season.

Now, the Dodgers were hit with some unfortunate news regarding the timeline of veteran lefty Clayton Kershaw, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

“Sometime in September” doesn't exactly sound too good, either. There isn't much clarity regarding Kershaw's return from injury.

While the Dodgers don't desperately need him– they brought in Cole Hamels and added Max Scherzer at the trade deadline— they certainly want him healthy for the playoffs. The Dodgers also added Danny Duffy via trade with the Kansas City Royals, and perhaps the uncertainty regarding Kershaw led to them being more active in the pitching side of things.

At this rate, the Dodgers look to be headed for a Wild Card spot, unless the Giants cool off. Truth is, who knows when Kershaw comes back, and he last pitched on July 3 against the Washington Nationals. On the year, he has compiled a 9-7 record with a 3.39 ERA in 18 games, and Dave Roberts and company hope he can be ready to roll come playoff time.
