The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a scare when Mookie Betts injured his foot on Thursday night. On Friday, the Dodgers made a couple of moves, including activating designated hitter JD Martinez, per the Dodgers' official release.

‘The Dodgers activated designated hitter J.D. Martinez from the injured list and optioned IF Michael Busch to Triple-A Oklahoma City.'

This is a massive move, especially with the status of Betts up in the air going into the final stretch of the season. Martinez has been sensational since joining the Dodgers in the offseason. He is hitting .256 with 25 home runs and 78 RBIs for L.A., but Martinez has been out since Aug. 21 after suffering an injury against the Miami Marlins.

Martinez missed time earlier in August as well with another injury but was able to return, so he has been dinged up as of late. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers sent Michael Busch down to Triple-A. He was hitting just .167 with a pair of home runs and seven RBIs this season.

The Dodgers are beginning a three-game road series against the Washington Nationals before returning for a massive three-game set with the San Diego Padres. The good news is that the Dodgers have a commanding 13-game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks for the National League West lead, although they remain behind the Atlanta Braves for the top seed in the National League.

With Betts' status up in the air, getting JD Martinez back on the field right now is a massive boost for Dave Roberts' team.
