As the MLB regular season enters its final month, the two best teams in the National League went head-to-head in a massive showdown, and the dueling stars did not disappoint. The Atlanta Braves took a trip out west to face the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Ronald Acuña Jr. brought the fight to Mookie Betts, who answered the bell in style.

The Braves have cemented themselves as the best team in baseball, and they have a host of All-Stars to back up the success. Acuña Jr. blasted a grand slam in the second inning, forcing Betts to step up for his team to close the gap, making history in the process.

Mookie Betts has been white hot in August, delivering unprecedented production for LA. He went yard twice on Thursday night, and his second homer was his 51st hit in the month, the most of any Dodgers player since their arrival in Los Angeles in 1958, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

The first blast was also his 250th HR of his career, and he is now at 38 on the season. He leads Acuña Jr. in that category, who earned his 30th of the season with the grand slam earlier in the game.

The two superstars are in a dogfight for NL MVP, a race which has tightened tremendously down the stretch with Betts' recent onslaught at the plate. They both flipped in the odds battle over the last week, after Betts was able to trim the lead down from previous -500 odds for Acuña Jr.

Whoever closes out the final month of the season the strongest will take home the decorated trophy, as Acuña Jr. still maintains a lead at -140 odds per FanDuel Sportsbook. He holds a strong advantage in the stolen base department despite owning less deep balls, which could be the deciding factor if he can beat Betts (+100).
