Why The Dodgers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Dodgers are the best team in the National League West and the second-best team in the NL. Amazingly, they have continued to persevere, even with some injuries to their offense.

Mookie Betts is out with a wrist injury and may not return for some time. Therefore, the other stars in this lineup must step up. Freddie Freeman is the first guy everyone turns to. So far, he has done well in his career against San Francisco, batting .280 with 104 hits, 16 home runs, 54 RBIs, and 53 runs over 95 games. Of course, you cannot forget about Shohei Ohtani, one of the best hitters in the game. Ohtani has done solid work in limited action against the Giants, hitting .262 with 16 hits, two home runs, seven RBIs, and seven runs over 17 games. Others like Teoscar Hernandez and Will Smith must also take steps to help power this offense through.

Knack faces the Giants for the first time. Substantially, he leads a rotation that is fifth in the majors. When Knack finishes, he will turn it over to the second-best bullpen in baseball.

The Dodgers will cover the spread if Freeman and Ohtani can lead the charge and slug some hits to help the Dodgers move forward. Then, they need a good outing from Knack.

Why The Giants Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Giants have struggled to keep pace with the Dodgers and the San Diego Padres this season. But the offense has not been the reason for their struggles. In fact, the offense has actually been decent on most nights. Yet, there are still some issues.

Things have been tough since Lamonte Wade suffered an injury. Therefore, others have had to step in. It has not been perfect. Regardless, the Giants have some hitters who need to improve their career numbers against the boys in blue.

Michael Conforto is batting just .201 with 30 hits, five home runs, 19 RBIs, and 20 runs over 47 career games against Los Angeles. Thus, he needs to take better swings and get on base. Thairo Estrada has eerily similar numbers against the Dodgers, batting .201 with 32 hits, five home runs, 13 RBIs, and 15 runs over 45 games.

Matt Chapman needs to find his power swing. So far, he is batting just .210 with 13 hits, three home runs, six RBIs, and 11 runs over 16 games against the Dodgers. Wilmer Flores has done slightly better against the Dodgers, hitting .270 with 85 hits, 11 home runs, 34 RBIs, and 35 runs over 90 games. Regardless, these hitters need to help Webb out.

Webb faced the Dodgers twice earlier this season. First, he struggled in the first start at Chavez Ravine, lasting just 3 2/3 innings while allowing five earned runs on seven hits in a loss. But Webb bounced back on May 15 at home, shutting out the Dodgers through six innings while striking out five in a win. Now, he leads a rotation that is 25th in the majors in team ERA. When Webb finishes, he will turn it over to a bullpen that is 20th in team ERA.

The Giants will cover the spread if they can give Webb some run support. Then, he must fool the hitters into swinging at bad pitches.

Final Dodgers-Giants Prediction & Pick

The Dodgers have covered the spread in just three of the six games this season. Yet, they have also covered the spread in both wins in San Francisco. What was the game they did not cover? It was the game Webb pitched. We expect Webb to pitch a good game at home, where he depends on the crowd's energy. There is no guarantee that the Giants will give him any run support. However, Webb will do everything to keep them in it and help the Giants cover the spread.
