The news on Miami Dolphins running back Frank Gore is not good, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Gore has a sprained foot, and considering there are only two games remaining in the season, he's not expected to return to the field this year.

Gore sprained his foot during Miami's game on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. In that game, he rushed just five times for 14 yards and caught no passes. The 35-year-old will finish the 2018 season with 14 games played (all starts), 4.6 yards per carry, and 722 rushing yards — his lowest rushing total in a season since his rookie year.

But the low rushing total is more about how the Dolphins used Gore this year than his production. His 4.6 average per carry represents his highest number in that category since 2012, when he was a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

If Gore returns next season at the age of 36, he'll be looking to continue to add to his Hall of Fame resume. So far, that resume includes nearly 15,000 rushing yards, 77 rushing touchdowns, 455 receptions, 18 receiving touchdowns, and five Pro Bowl appearances. Gore also has 646 rushing yards and five touchdowns in eight career playoff games, including his Super Bowl appearance in 2012 in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

With Gore out for the final two games of the season, the Dolphins may lean on 24-year-old running back Kenyan Drake. The third-year player has rushed 103 times this year in 14 games, totaling 469 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. In addition, Drake has added 44 receptions and five receiving touchdowns.
