The start of the Miami Dolphins quarterback battle will start in OTA's with Josh Rosen and Ryan Fitzpatrick expected to get equal reps. Assistant quarterback coach Jerry Schuplinsk said everyone would start with an equal playing field and as the competition goes on it will be seen if one player starts to get more reps over the other.

“I think they’ll all be working in with similar guys and getting pretty much equal reps with everybody,” coach Jerry Schuplinski said recently via the Miami Herald. “Then, eventually, we’ll just see how they develop and how they go. I think we’ll probably let the process come to us and see who is playing well.”

It will be interesting how this whole process works out, but right now it seems that Fitzpatrick might have a leg up. Fitzpatrick signed with the Dolphins in mid-March while Rosen didn't come to South Beach until the end of April. That has given Fitzpatrick more time to learn the offense and interact with players on the offense.

Shuplinsk admits that Rosen is a bit behind in learning the offense, but they are going to take it a bit slower with him to make sure they do it the right way.

“He’s certainly not caught up to everybody probably quite yet; but I think we took the right approach with that.,” Schuplinski said of Rosen. “I don’t think he’s going to catch up in a week-and-a-half’s time. But if we take a little bit of a longer view, hopefully in the next couple of weeks he’s there. You can certainly see signs of progress.”

The ultimate decision might come down to how they attack this season. If they want to win games this season, they might go with the veteran who offers more leadership but if they know, this year is strictly a rebuild maybe they will go with Rosen to see what they have in him.
