The Miami Dolphins are making a late-season push toward securing one of the Wild Card spots with the stark possibility of being in play to secure the AFC East division title.
During this stretch of games, it has also become increasingly obvious that wide receiver DeVante Parker's role has continued to diminish in the process. This is something that offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains acknowledged, stating that it has been a combination of several different factors that have led to this being the case, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
Parker has had his fair share of issues with health, which have limited his impact on the field while he has struggled to garner a significant workload in the passing game. This has been the case over the last few weeks as he has recorded fewer than 20 receiving yards in three out of the last four games.
There is clearly no plan to get him involved in a greater capacity as his production has continued to fluctuate as the season has worn on.
These comments from Loggains only confirm what has become quite evident on the field over the last few weeks. Entering the 2018 campaign, the Dolphins had high hopes that Parker could fulfill the role of being their clear-cut No. 1 receiving option, especially after the departure of Pro Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry.
Instead, it has been a struggle for him to stay on the field and prove that he can take up the responsibility. What this signals more than anything else is that he will likely be out of the mix in the offseason. Parker is currently under contract for the 2019 season on a fifth-year option of his deal that is worth nearly $9.4 million.
Given that the Dolphins were willing to take the financial hit to move players last offseason, it could be much of the same with this situation.
