Running back Kalen Ballage has been released by the Miami Dolphins, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

The Dolphins have apparently had enough of Ballage's 1.8 yard average and have decided to part ways with him.

Miami took the 24-year-old in the 4th round of 2018 NFL Draft with a pick received in the Jay Ajayi trade. The Arizona State alum did not lack chances to cement himself in the Dolphins' lineup last season, especially after Kenyan Drake was traded and Mark Walton was released.

His last season numbers of 74 rushes and 135 yards were the last nail in the coffin as the Dolphins officially sent him packing. He famously said last year that he had “nothing left to prove” in the NFL:

“I’ve played all right,” Ballage said. “The opportunity’s been slim, so you can only do so much with that. But moving forward, it’s about getting in there, getting in rhythm and being able to touch the ball more, so I’m excited about that.”

The Kalen Ballage move was foreseen after the Dolphins picked up Salvon Ahmed from the San Francisco 49ers' waivers. The expected starting running backs for Miami in the upcoming season are Matt Breida and Jordan Howard. Meanwhile Miles Gaskin, Patrick Laird, and the newly-acquired Ahmed will fight for the back-up roles.

Coming into the league, Ballage was hyped for his combination of speed and power, but he never managed to reach his potential. Unfortunately for Ballage, he has to prove himself all over again as he searches for a new home in the NFL.
