NBA referees quickly giving out technical fouls is a thing in today's game, and nobody knows that more than Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green.
Over his nine-year career, he's received his fair share of technicals. Some were warranted, and some weren't. That's how things are nowadays. Sometimes these situations create funny moments, and that's what we are going to talk about in a minute.
Green is a player known to speak his mind, and it doesn't matter what time it is. If he feels the need to give you a piece of his mind, he does it. It can be on the court or in a postgame interview. Green does not hold back, and that's one of the reasons people love him.
Now let's talk about some of Green's funniest technical fouls.
This past season Draymond Green received a technical foul after a play that benefited the Warriors, which is an unusual time to be upset. Teammate Stephen Curry got fouled while shooting a three-pointer. It was funny at the time because Curry shooting three free throws is as close as guaranteed points as it gets. It was very bizarre at the time till Green gave his explanation in a postgame interview.
“You can’t just say to a guy, ‘That’s it! stop talking!’ We’re all grown men at the end of the day. So it’s a way you talk to people, and you know just because you’re in a position of authority doesn’t mean you can talk to us like we’re children,” Draymond Green told ClutchPoints.
Knowing what was said made this situation understandable but still funny.
Another funny technical came in the same season. Green might have become the first player ever to be disciplined by an official for this. Green received a technical for yelling at rookie James Wiseman — his teammate. What added a little more insult to the situation was the fact that it was his second technical of the game, so Green was ejected as well.
We've all seen players blow up at teammates, but we've never seen a referee step in and take charge. It might be one of the most bizarre ejections of all time.
