The Atlanta Dream take on the Chicago Sky. Check out our WNBA odds series for our Dream Sky prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Dream Sky.
The Atlanta Dream are 4-4, and the Chicago Sky are 4-5. These two teams inhabit the middle third of the WNBA. They are in the playoff hunt, occupying two of the final spots in the eight-team playoff field if the season ended today. They aren't going to catch the top teams in the league, but they have a good chance of fending off the Dallas Wings, Los Angeles Sparks, Indiana Fever, and Washington Mystics for a playoff berth.
The Atlanta Dream have the second-worst offense in the WNBA. Their scoring average of 75.1 points per game is better than only one team, the winless Washington Mystics. Atlanta has no margin for error in the games it plays because it simply can't extend a lead once it gets one. The Dream have to lean too much on their defense and do not get enough two-way play to strike fear into the hearts of their opponents.
The Chicago Sky have an offense which is only marginally better than Atlanta's. Chicago struggled to put away the winless Washington Mystics earlier this week. If you are watching Angel Reese, one of the high-profile rookies in the WNBA this season, you can tell that she is a superb defensive player and an elite rebounder. She's one of the best effort players in the league. However, she is not finishing plays consistently at the offensive end of the floor. If she can improve in that regard, the Sky's ceiling will be higher. This game against the Dream's strong defense is a good measuring stick for Reese, one-fourth of the way into her WNBA rookie campaign.

Why The Dream Could Cover The Spread
The Dream might not be imposing, but they do play good defense, which regularly keeps them competitive in games. Give that Chicago and Angel Reese do not have a dynamic offense, the Dream can win a close and hard-fought battle against the Sky. Chicago is not a good 3-point shooting team, which should enable Atlanta to defend all five spots in the floor with relative efficiency. The Dream can make this game ugly and smother the Sky's offense. That's how they can cover the spread, winning a game played in the 70s, not the 80s.
Why The Sky Could Cover The Spread
The Dream's lack of a quality offense could hurt them once again. Chicago does not have an elite offense in its own right, but the Sky do average three points a game more than Atlanta does. Since the spread is relatively small at 2.5 points, that three-point differential feels more substantial than it would in another matchup between two other WNBA teams. Chicago needs just a small infusion of offense to flip the script in this game and cover the spread.
