Dustin Poirier is widely regarded as one of the best boxers in the UFC. The current lightweight title challenger has excellent hands and has beat the best on the feet.
He holds wins over excellent boxers like Conor McGregor and Max Holloway. Dustin Poirier is someone in a great position to name the best boxer in the UFC.
“Me and Thiago Alves was just talking about this. I think Petr Yan,” Poirier told Ariel Helwani during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour. “Just the way he moves; the way he doesn’t waste a lot of movements.
“His positioning is always crisp, his footwork, he’s never out of position. He doesn’t load up, but he throws clean power shots. Good accuracy, works the body well. Goes up, goes down. It’s just a lot of things that he does really, really well.”
Petr Yan put on an exciting display against Corey Sandhagen in his last fight at UFC 267. He displayed excellent striking against a tricky opponent.
Dustin Poirier was certainly impressed with the performance and that's a big reason why he has Petr Yan as the best boxer. Poirier does recognize himself as a good boxer but he doesn't see himself as the best.
“I’m on that list. I’m definitely on that list. I can’t say (that I’m the best). I’m not that guy. (But) I can box.”
UFC 269 will test Dustin Poirier's striking as he gets put to the test against Charles Oliveira's Muay Thai. Both men will be hoping to leave with the belt wrapped around their waist.
