Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Carson Wentz has continued to take significant steps forward in his recovery from a torn ACL and LCL over the last several weeks.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Wentz has inched closer to his return to the field after being cleared to participate in 11-on-11 drills on the practice field when the team resumes practice on Sunday.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz will resume 11-on-11 team work when the defending Super Bowl champions return to practice Sunday, according to team sources.

There had previously been chatter that Wentz would be given the green light to give it a go in 11-on-11 drills at some point in the near future. The fact that is has happened now shows where exactly he is at physically at this point in time. This also leaves the door open to him being able to take the field for the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons. This possibility has gained more momentum with the more activity that he picks up in training camp.

These next couple of weeks will be indicative of what his body can handle physically with the increased level of activity. If he is able to excel and show that he can perform effectively in this setting it should set the table for him to take the field against the Falcons. Wentz had already acknowledged that it will be a close decision as it will come down to a decision made by the coaches and medical staff about whether he will be cleared to take the field.

This situation has only drawn more attention with backup Nick Foles suffering a minor right shoulder strain during Thursday's preseason action against the New England Patriots. All of this has put scrutiny on which quarterback will be under center come Week 1.
