Just minutes after word broke that the Philadelphia Eagles were acquiring veteran safety Kevin Byard from the Tennessee Titans, his new teammate Darius Slay jumped on social media to share how excited he is to team up with the two-time Pro Bowler.

Slay noted the Eagles “just got better” and sent a quick message to Byard in the process:

The Eagles, coming off of a Super Bowl appearance last season, were rumored to be looking at the trade market to shore up their depleted secondary. Justin Evans is currently on injured reserve with a knee injury and Reed Blankenship missed the team's win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday night with an injury to his ribs. Slay himself, along with others on the defensive unit, such as Jalen Carter, have also missed time.

Slay has good reason to be excited, as the pairing could be lethal for opponents. The Eagles corner has 29 tackles and two interceptions on the season, While Byard has amassed 47 tackles to go along with a fumble recovery.

While Slay and the rest of his teammates may be smiling at the move, ultimately the Eagles' season depends on the health of quarterback Jalen Hurts. In Sunday's win over the Dolphins, Hurts wore a knee brace while throwing for 279 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

The Eagles have divisional games against the Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys over the next two weeks before their bye. If they can make it through this stretch with Hurts intact and no more injuries to key defensive players, they've got to feel good about their chances heading into the second half of the regular season.
