It has been a steady road back to recovery for Philadelphia Eagles Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Wentz from a torn ACL and LCL that occurred back in mid-December. He has since picked up his recovery regimen over the last couple of months that has created much optimism that he could be ready to go by the target date of Week 1 of the 2018 campaign.

However, this is something that head coach Doug Pederson has yet to clarify as he voiced that the doctors will have the final say over if Wentz will be on the field to start the season, according to Peter King of Pro Football Talk.

“I can’t say. I don’t know now. I can tell you it’s not going to be a Doug Pederson decision. It will be a doctors’ decision. Carson will have to be 100 percent before he takes the field. I am going to rely totally on my medical staff.”

All of the indications are pointing the Wentz being able to get that much-needed medical clearance to take the next step in his recovery from the injury. He has continued to show improvement in his mobility and strength in his leg that exemplified by a 60-plus yard throw to a camper earlier this month.

There is a strong desire from Pederson to have his quarterback back on the field, but there is no rush to get back sooner than he is physically capable of doing so. What should also be noted is that he's dealing with an injury that typically takes between nine months to a year to have a full recovery.

At the same time, the Eagles have the security blank with Nick Foles still being the backup on the roster. The team has plenty of comfort going that route if need be, but it is clear that the team has their eyes set on doing what's best to get Wentz back in a timely manner that is best physically for the 25-year-old.
