Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has halted speculation that former quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo could return to the team after being fired by the Minnesota Vikings.

DeFilippo was let go as Minnesota's offensive coordinator on Tuesday, which came a day after one of the Vikings' most miserable offensive performances of the season in a 21-7 loss against the Seattle Seahawks.

Naturally, his exit from Minnesota led to rumors about his potential return to Philly.

However, Pederson quickly denied the possibility of that happening this season.

From Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk:

DeFilippo was fired on Tuesday, which means he could rejoin the Eagles for the final weeks of the season as they try to find their way back to the postseason. Head coach Doug Pederson was asked about that possibility at his Wednesday press conference.

Pederson said that DeFilippo did a great job with the team, but that he is confident in the current staff and would not be moving to bring DeFilippo back to Philadelphia right now.

Of course, there's always a chance that the two sides could reunite after this season, but it sounds like that won't be happening at this stage of the season.

The Eagles desperately need some type of boost at the moment, as they sit at 6-7 on the season after the Week 14 overtime loss in Dallas and may not get a chance to defend their Super Bowl crown.

To make matters worse, quarterback Carson Wentz may reportedly be sidelined for this week's game against the Los Angeles Rams.

That's not ideal for a team that needs all the wins it can get to make it back to the playoffs.
