The Philadelphia Eagles are one of two teams expected to compete for an NFC East crown come the 2019 season, with the rival Dallas Cowboys prime to find at least some success as well. However, if the Eagles are going to return to the postseason for the third consecutive year, Philadelphia will surely need the services of veteran defensive lineman Fletcher Cox, who recently underwent foot surgery to correct a lingering issue.

Nonetheless, Cox could still return to the fold in Philadelphia for training camp — well, that's the goal anyway.

Although Cox would like to return to the Eagles for training camp, Philadelphia will most certainly be playing it safe with the seasoned defender. Probably a good sign for the hopeful Cox, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson doesn't seem too concerned.

“There's always going to be those injured guys who have procedures at the end of the year,” Pederson recently said, via The Philly Voice. “They have a longer healing time. Maybe you get them back for OTAs if they're minor enough. If not, at least you'll get them back from training camp. Last year we had guys linger through camp even into the first part of the season, so that's probably a benefit.”

Of course, the surging Eagles are just two years removed from winning the first Super Bowl in franchise history. Following up that performance with yet another impressive year in 2018-19, the Eagles returned to the postseason en route to winning yet another postseason game. However, the Los Angeles Rams ultimately unseated Philadelphia as the reigning NFC Champions.
