Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has announced that Nick Foles will start once again at quarterback for their Week 2 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Foles will continue to start over Carson Wentz, who still hasn’t been cleared for contact after tearing his ACL and LCL in December. Eagles offensive coordinator Mike Groh said previously that the team had already decided who would start prior to Pederson’s announcement on Wednesday.

Foles did not have a particularly impressive game in the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday night. The reigning Super Bowl MVP went just 19 of 34 for 117 yards with no touchdown and one interception. But despite his struggles, the Eagles still came away with the 18-12 win.

Foles and the rest of the Eagles offense will look to have a more productive performance against a Buccaneers defense which still hasn’t solved its problems. The Bucs, who were the worst-ranked pass defense in the league last season, were torched by the Saints’ Drew Brees, who racked up 439 passing yards and three touchdowns.

As for Wentz, the Eagles are clearly taking extra precaution with their young star’s recovery, which is the right move on their part. Hopefully for the Eagles, it won’t be long now until he’s finally cleared for contact. After the Bucs, the Eagles host the Colts in Week 3 and go on the road to the Titans in Week 4.
