The Detroit Lions were continuing to seek out a trade partner for Darius Slay and they finally found one. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Philadelphia Eagles are finalizing a trade for Slay and signing him to a new contract.

The initial reports of a deal between the Lions and the Eagles came late on Wednesday night from Josina Anderson of ESPN. However, the two sides have come to an agreement that sends third- and fifth-round picks to the Lions.

On the other hand, the Eagles are making Slay one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL following the trade. As a matter of fact, the contract between Philadelphia and Slay will be worth $50 million over three years, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Comparatively, Byron Jones received a five-year, $82.5 million contract from the Miami Dolphins in free agency, making him the highest-paid corner in the league, in terms of annual salary. But with Slay's new deal with the Eagles, Jones' time as the highest-paid corner was short-lived.

Since the 2019 season concluded, the Lions have been trying to trade Slay for some draft capital. Even though he's one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, Detroit wasn't having much luck moving the All-Pro corner.

Then, on Wednesday night, the Lions signed Desmond Trufant to a two-year deal. As a result, Slay responded by exclaiming that he hopes the move for Trufant will expedite the process of him being traded. Not even 24 hours later, Slay gets his wish and the Eagles get the cornerback they wanted all along.
