The Philadelphia Eagles were able to secure a crucial victory over the New York Giants in Week 12. It also appears they may have found a workhorse running back in Josh Adams as well.

Adams has emerged as Philadelphia's top option in the backfield in recent weeks. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, they will use him as their lead back moving forward:

The Eagles are planning to feature RB Josh Adams as their starter going forward, an impressive rise for the former UDFA from Notre Dame

The report should come as no surprise. Adams has clearly established himself as the most talented option in Philadelphia's backfield amidst their rash of injuries in the 2018 NFL season.

Of course, it is still a bit of a switch from their usual approach. The Eagles have long relied on a backfield by committee to facilitate their offense. However, it seems they have decided to roll with the rookie.

They solidified the notion of him becoming a workhorse back during their win against the Giants. Adams received a career-high 22 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown. Although it was not his most efficient outing, his physicality helped the Eagles chew up some valuable clock.

With Adams likely now handling the bulk of the carries, running backs Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood will likely have to split duties on passing downs. While it may result in a dramatic drop in touches for both players, they will need to capitalize before Philadelphia decides to use Adams more as a receiver as well.
