While rumors about Golden Tate going into free agency, & possibly to the Jets, continue to run rampant, there's a chance the Eagles will re-sign him, too.

This offseason, the Eagles have a decision to make on wide receiver Golden Tate, who will become a free agent. Tate wasn’t very productive after being acquired at the trade deadline, but the Eagles invested a third-round pick in trading for him. Ultimately, if the Eagles — light on cap space — want to re-sign Tate, who might be the top available receiver at present, it might spell the end of Agholor’s time in Philadelphia.

NJ.com has more details about what the Eagles plan to do, given this lineup situation.

“After restructuring Rodney McLeod’s contract and Nick Foles declining his $20 million team option, the Eagles are projected to have around $4-5 million in cap space. If the Eagles ultimately decide to franchise tag Foles — which comes with a $25 million cap hold — then it is possible Agholor could be in trouble, though defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan or left tackle, Jason Peters, to seem like more likely cap casualties in the immediate future.”

But, no matter what the Eagles decide to do with Golden Tate, what is definitely not going to happen is Agholor playing the 2019 season with a $9.38 million cap hit. Rather, Agholor and his team will come to an understanding of a multi-year contract extension, especially if he isn't waived or traded. What's more, the Eagles would save the entirety of that $9.38M hit by releasing or trading Agholor.
