Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffery appeared to have suffered a non-contact injury against the New York Giants on “Monday Night Football.” He fell to the ground, showing pain in his lower body before the Eagles carted him off to the locker room from the sideline.

Although he has yet to be ruled out for the game, based on the play, it would be hard to imagine that Jeffery makes his way back onto the field against the Giants. Considering his lengthy injury history, including throughout the 2019 season, Jeffery may even be held out for nothing more than precautionary purposes if this setback turns out to be a little less significant than initially anticipated.

Adding to the intrigue of the still-unfolding situation, Jeffery’s absence against the Giants could quickly become even more notable because the Eagles entered the NFC East clash with just three active wideouts.

With fellow Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor nursing a lingering knee injury that ultimately sidelined him for Week 14, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and Greg Ward are the only two available wide receivers for the Eagles and quarterback Carson Wentz.

Luckily for Philadelphia, the Eagles have two very capable tight ends in Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert, who should immediately see increased workloads going forward.

As for the Eagles as a whole, this is a team that cannot afford to lose a talent like Jeffery at this point in the season. Despite some poor play along the way, the Eagles still have a very real shot at winning the NFC East division in 2019-20.
