Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that Canelo Alvarez is quite confident in his ability to defeat Dmitry Bivol in a potential rematch.

Bivol came away with a successful defense of his WBA (Super) light heavyweight title against Alvarez last Saturday via a unanimous decision victory. Bivol had his way over the course of the bout with the undisputed super middleweight world champion, which included connecting on at least 30 percent of power punches in all but just one round (10th).

There is now much talk on just what is next for Canelo at this stage in his career, but as Hearn noted to iFL TV, the star boxer is sure that he would not lose in a rematch to Bivol.

“He was gutted, devastated, and I said, ‘What do you want to do?' And he said, ‘I want to rematch Bivol. I know I can beat him,'” Hearn said of his talk with Canelo a day after the fight.

“‘Obviously, you’ve got to be right because back-to-back defeats for Saul Canelo Alvarez is not a good look.’ ‘No, no, no, I will not lose again.”

Alvarez made the move to 175 in order to square off with Bivol, and it is currently up in the air as to whether the latter would drop to 168 in a possible rematch. Bivol did note a day after the fight that he would put some thought into fighting at 168, although he later added that he is “not sure 100 percent” on whether he would make a serious push into doing so.

The wait continues on if there will indeed be a rematch between these two world champions.
