Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito revealed he had talks with James Gunn about a DCU role prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Doing a Q+A at a recent comic convention (via X user Mint Doom), Esposito was asked if he “had a chance to appear in DC films.” He replied, “I had been talking to James Gunn about the possibility about being in a movie. So, who knows? It could happen soon.”

Mint Doom added that Esposito says he's “aware” of the fancastings that include MCU and DCU characters such as Charles Xavier, Magneto, and Mr. Freeze. He also added that he'd prefer playing a superhero over a villain — he did just portray a villain in The Mandalorian and voiced one in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, after all — and that he knows he'll eventually have a role in the MCU or DCU.

Giancarlo Esposito is an actor who got his big break in Spike Lee's iconic Do the Right Thing. He's go on to appear in other Lee films including Mo' Better Blues, Malcolm X, and School Daze.

In more recent years, Esposito made his way onto the small screen. He would star as Gustavo Fring in 26 episodes of Breaking bad from 2009-2011. Once Better Call Saul premiered, he reprised the role in 34 episodes from 2017-2022. He even directed one episode, “Axe and Grind,” in Season 6.

He voiced the role of Lex Luthor in the animated DC series, Harley Quinn, and also starred in Godfather of Harlem. 2019 also brought his debuts in both The Mandalorian as Moff Gideon and The Boys as Stan Edgar.

James Gunn's DCU still has plenty of roles to fill. Hopefully, he finds the right fit for Esposito.
