Although this week's episode of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ seemed a little shorter than its three previous installments, it still has a lot of juicy details and fun trivia for Star Wars fans. And with yet another week to go before episode five, it's the best time to delve into the facts involving the old Jedi Master's attempt to rescue a young Leia Organa. We take a look below at the best Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4 easter eggs and what they mean for this series.
Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 4 easter eggs
Obi-Wan Kenobi swimming with a breather
Once Obi-Wan and Tala have hatched a plan to infiltrate Fortus Inquisitorius, the Inquisitors' headquarters, the latter gets to work right away by taking advantage of her status as an Imperial officer. After getting past the initial layer of security, Tala accesses the Fortress' layout and guides the Jedi to enter via an underwater entrance.
As this scene unfolds, we see Kenobi swimming with a small breathing apparatus in his mouth. This is highly reminiscent of Episode I: The Phantom Menace when he and Qui-Gon Jinn were swimming to the Gungan capital on Naboo to escape the Trade Federation forces.
But while that moment happened decades ago and the times were certainly brighter, Obi-Wan's present situation is more perilous. Nevertheless, it's a cool throwback to simple times when the Republic and the Jedi Order were still around.
Obi-Wan sneaking around
After entering Fortus Inquisitorius, Obi-Wan proceeds to explore the Imperial facility for signs that will lead him to Leia. As he does, he manages to evade stormtroopers throughout long and gloomy hallways. This whole sequence is very similar to what Alec Guinness' version did in Episode IV: A New Hope.
During the part where he, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2, and C-3PO were hiding in the Death Star, Kenobi decided to find the station's tractor beam and knock it out of commission. This led the Jedi to navigate the Death Star's inner workings and its forces to accomplish this feat, much like what Ewan McGregor's version did recently.
Article Continues BelowThis scene is another callback, albeit it references the original trilogy. With how Obi-Wan's journey progresses from that point on, it's definitely cool to see an earlier experience that shaped his older years.
Lightsaber collection
At some point in the episode, Obi-Wan is nearing Leia's location and asks Tala for a distraction to rescue her. This motivates the Imperial officer to call on Reva, just as she was going to torture the young princess. The two meet and the Third Sister senses something wrong with Tala as she tells her information about the Path used to help Jedi and Force-sensitive children escape.
While this is happening, a collection of lightsabers can be seen displayed near the window. Although it's impossible to learn which Jedi owned these lightsabers, their presence in such a place only shows how effective Inquisitors are in hunting their prey.
Jedi Tomb
Right before Obi-Wan locates Leia, the old Jedi Master found himself in an area with a number of individuals encased in amber. While it hasn't been revealed who these people are, it's safe to assume that all of them are enemies of the Empire captured by the Inquisitors.
Among those that stood out are a youngling, one who appears to be from the Jedi Order, and an old alien who bears a lot of resemblance to Tera Sinube. According to a report, this alien is indeed the old Jedi Master who first appeared in Clone Wars season 2. In that episode, Sinube helped Ahsoka Tano retrieve her lightsaber since he was known among the Jedi Order as its foremost investigator.
His appearance in this Obi-Wan Kenobi episode confirms the fate of the old Jedi Master and the lengths these Inquisitors would go to fulfill their mission of hunting Jedi. It remains to be seen whether this vault containing the remains of Sinube and other individuals will be expanded on soon.
