Pop star Sabrina Carpenter's Feather music video was posted on YouTube on Halloween, a Tuesday. By the end of that week, a Catholic priest was relieved of his administrative duties, The New York Times reported.

In the Feather music video, Carpenter, who has been performing the song live as Taylor Swift's opening act for her Eras Tour, dances through Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Annunciation Parish. It's a Catholic church in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

A Feather walks into a church…

The video begins with a shot of the church's ceiling, bells ringing and pans down to a white coffin with a candy-colored cross and the words “RIP B***H.” It then pans over to the altar with lilac crosses and then to the exterior of the church.

The Feather music video currently has 11.7 million views and led to complaints on social media.

The Diocese of Brooklyn sent a statement to the Catholic News Agency to denounce the video, and said it was “appalled at what was filmed.”

The parish's pastor, Msgr. Jamie T. Gigantiello, allowed Carpenter's team to film. However, the diocese claimed that the priest did not follow “diocesan policy regarding the filming on Church property, which includes a review of the scenes and script.” Mark Irons, a reporter for Catholic news outlet EWTN first posted the news on X.

Bishop Robert J. Brennan responded to the video by celebrating a Mass of Reparation. The diocese said this “restored the sanctity of this church and repaired the harm.”

Bishop Brennan then relieved Monsignor Gigantiello of his administrative duties to the parish. Gigantiello posted an apology on the church's Facebook page.

He said that Sabrina Carpenter's team had asked him in September to film a music video inside and around the church. Gigantiello went online to learn more about the pop star and “did not learn anything questionable.”

He then approved the project. He said that he did it in an “effort to further strengthen the bonds between the young creative artists who make up a large part of this community.”

Gigantiello's email said that he was told that the video would include a funeral scene. However, the final edit was “not what was initially presented to me.”

Feather's music video director has not commented on the issue.
